Filippo De Pisis (1896–1956) was an Italian painter and writer, best known for his vibrant, expressive style that blends elements of 'Impressionism' and 'Metaphysical art'. Born in Ferrara, Italy, De Pisis initially studied literature and philosophy, which greatly influenced his early creative pursuits as a poet and art critic.

In the 1920s, he moved to Paris, where he was inspired by the works of artists like Matisse and Manet, and began developing his unique painterly approach. His paintings, often still lifes, cityscapes, and portraits, are characterized by loose brushwork and a vivid use of color, capturing a sense of spontaneity and emotion.

Despite his delicate health, De Pisis had a prolific career, exhibiting extensively across Europe. His work, deeply poetic and introspective, remains celebrated for its emotional depth and its ability to evoke fleeting moments of beauty.
