Giorgio Celiberti (born 1929) is an Italian painter and sculptor known for his evocative, abstract works that often explore themes of memory, history, and human suffering. Born in Udine, Italy, Celiberti studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Venice and began his career in the post-World War II era, a time that deeply influenced his artistic expression.
His art blends elements of abstraction with figurative hints, using a variety of materials such as paint, bronze, and mixed media. One of his most significant periods was his time spent in Auschwitz, where he was moved by the tragedy of the Holocaust, which became a recurring theme in his work. Celiberti’s art often reflects a deep sense of humanity, loss, and resilience, with his textural, layered surfaces adding emotional depth.
Over the decades, he has exhibited widely in Italy and internationally, gaining recognition for his powerful, introspective approach to both painting and sculpture.
