Xavier Bueno (1915–1979) was a Spanish-born Italian painter known for his expressive, socially engaged art. Born in Vera de Bidasoa, Spain, he moved to Geneva as a young man, where he studied art. In 1940, he relocated to Italy, where he became closely associated with the 'Italian Realist movement', focusing on themes of human suffering, poverty, and the working class.
Bueno's style evolved from early influences of Impressionism and Post-Impressionism to a more intense, textured realism. His most notable works are his portraits, particularly of children, which convey deep emotion and vulnerability. Throughout his career, he participated in major exhibitions in Italy and abroad, and his work remains admired for its poignant social commentary and humanism.
